Caps & Closures

Splenda
In order to follow the market trend to replace glass jars by plastic jars, Silgan Dispensing has developed a wide mouth screw closure called Splenda. The polypropylene closure is manufactured in a BRC approved factory, making Splenda perfectly suitable for Food applications such as peanut butter, marmalade and honey.
Splenda has an outer diameter of 66 mm and fits on PET and PP jars with a neck size of 63 mm. The gloss closure has a simple yet functional design that has been patented. The rim on the top offers the required stiffness for a firm and convenient closing. The closure will not deform or wrap after production. Tests have proven that Splenda runs smoothly on standard high speed capping lines.
The main driving force behind the adoption of plastic is the reduction of weight, which reduces the carbon footprint through savings in the transport chain. Plastic is also easily recyclable. These ecological advantages also give cost savings at the same time.
After moulding, a wad – consisting of a carton and thin metal layer – is mounted into the closure automatically. During capping the metal layer is sealed onto the glass jar while the carton layer remains in the inner side of the closure. This metal layer provides the required tamper evident function. After removal of the metal layer the carton closes off the jar during storage.
Splenda is produced in a BRC approved factory, meeting the most stringent quality regulations. Silgan Dispensing has appropriate systems and controls in place to ensure the hygiene of the production environment, products, processes and personnel.
