The Made for Recycling certificate was launched as an evaluation system for the new German Packaging Law (VerpackG), which went into effect on January 1, 2019, and is only awarded after a product passes Interseroh’s rigorous auditing process. Assignability to the collection system, sortability of the packaging, suitability for mechanical recycling and provision of secondary products to the collection system are all assessed as part of the audit.
